08-26-08 - New Bandsaw

Immediately after runing the angle on the 20th, I got online and started bandsaw shopping. I had some Sears gift cards sitting around (my Discover cash back) and this saw was on sale. Not a store stocked item so I had to order it online and wait.

Much bigger and better than my HF special. It was very easy to set up this saw and I'm going to try using the wood blade that came with it as suggested by many other Sonex builders. I had an 18 TPI blade on the last one because I just couldn't get behind the idea of a 7 TPI saw blade for aluminum.

The first victim - recutting the spar attach angle.

The saw cut with no complaint. Much better than the old saw and the movable fence is great. I think the 7 TPI blade is a bit agressive, but it works very well. I will probably order a 14 or 18 TPI bi-metal blade online - I still have some channel and sheet angle to cut.

Both angles cut and ready to be cleaned up on the bench sander and polished with maroon scotchbrite.
