05-22-08 - Right Aft Spar

After adding the channel extension piece I added the tip rib clip.

I used my trusty cordless drill to match drill the holes to #40.

Preping to drill the root rib angle to the aft spar.

Pay attention - theres trouble afoot.  Unfortunately I didn't realize it until it was too late.

The clip lines up with the angle cut in the aft spar channel.

I marked the holes in the clip with a drill to indicate where to drill on the press.

I proped up the spar on the bandsaw so I could drill the whole assembly at once.

Drilled and clecoed - two holes anyway.

Error realization moment - I was looking at the wrong detail.  I've drilled the bracket BACKWARDS... CRAP.

Here's how the bracket is supposed to be installed on the aft spar.  At this point I'm hoping the holes might line up.

NOPE - the sharpie marks are where the holes are supposed to be located.  About an 1/8" off.  Not sure how I'm going to fix this one... I'll email some pics to Sonex and see what they think.

Since I drilled two holes I've got two that are in the wrong place.

After realizing what I did I decided it was time to call it a night.  Lesson learned - make sure you look at the correct detail in the plans.  The left and right aft spars have similar (but different) parts details.
