05-05-2008 - Right Aft Spar Channel
I've got the aft spar marked for rib spacing and rivet locations using
a steel tape measure and the layout tool I made.
Here's the measurement for the flap drive rod hole.
To ensure the spar plate lines up correclty with the aft spar I drew
lines from the top and bottom rivets to align the plate.
By lining up the rivet holes and the distance mark the plate will be in
the correct location.
I used some of the 2" angle as a straight edge to determine the proper
distance to the furthest hole in the plate.
Drilling the aft spar channel for the holes in the plate.
After I had a few holes drilled and celco'ed I marked the location for
the flap drive rod hole.
As marked by the mounting plate.
I don't have a 1 1/8" step bit, but the 3/4" will at least get me
started.
The flap drive hole partially drilled out.
Claming the channel down to file out the hole in the channel.
After a bit of filing and sanding the hole in the channel matches the
hole in the mounting plate.
The same part zoomed out.
Here's the completed hole. Came out pretty good.
I started drilling the holes for the rivets in the aft spar.
I coudln't resist clecoing one on to see if it fits and how
it looks. Cool stuff.
The holes line up pretty well. Any irregularities will be
gone once the holes are drilled to #30.
The aft spar drilled for the rivets. I've not cut the hole
for the aileron push rod yet.
The hole location for the aileron drive rod.
I aligned the hole with the marked line and the bottom of the channel
to determine where the hole should be made.
