04-24-08 - Aft Spar Root Rib Attach Angles

OK - apparently I didn't take pictures of makeing the radius blocks.  I took one of the offcuts of the main spar root rib angles and cut it down into 4 radius blocks on the bandsaw.  The radius of the top of the angle offcut is the perfect radius.

Measuring the width of the root rib angle for rough cutting.  The full lenght dimension isn't shown on the plans.  Be careful - the measurements on either side are different.
I didn't notice this at first.

Cutting the angle on the metal cutting bandsaw.  SOOO much easier than a hacksaw.  I need to build a wheeled platform to move the saw around.  The wheels that it came with are pretty bad.

Closeup of the cutting action.

The saw cuts pretty straight now that I've got it adjusted correctly.

The blanks for the aft spar root rib angles.

I expanded the left angle using the "wack it with a mallet on a concrete floor method".  It dosen't mark up the metal like prying with a my crowbar in the vice does.

Perfect angle bend - exactly 93.9 degrees (or so).

Ensuring the outer lenght marks are the right width.

Marking for the angle cuts.  I used blue for cut marks and black for reference lines.

Cut lines marked and hole locations marked.
