04-13-2008 - Root Rib Attach Angles

One thing to be careful on these parts (W20-02 & W20-03) is that the length shown on the drawing is 3/64" short of the actual length of the part.  Until you look at the mounting flange detail its not obvious that the angles end up outside of the 7 5/64" measurement.  Fortunately, I cut the angle long so I had room to cut the angles.

A closer shot of the "extended lenght"

Marking the spar flange.

Rough cut spar flange.

Marked for drilling the spar flange holes.

Spar flange hole marks from a different angle.

All attach angle holes drilled.

Holes drilled on the spar attach flange.

And, as if by magic there is a second part that is rough cut and drilled. (I didn't get pictures of cutting and cleaning up the first)

The angle with all of the saw marks cleaned up.

Two finished W20-02 root rib angles.

Using the vice to squeeze the W20-03 angle to 86 degrees.

The first W20-03 marked for cutting.

Match drilling the rivet holes.  Instead of marking the holes based on the drawing measurements I just used the predrilled angle to determine where the holes go.

The two different angles when clamped back to back should cancel each other out.

The c-clamp removed and clecos holding the angles together to match drill the holes in the middle.

A different view.

All of the holes drilled on the rib leg of the angle.

Clamping the spar leg of the angles together for match drilling.

I used one of the cutoff scraps to ensure the clamping force dosen't try to push out the angle when clamped.

Since the angles are match drilled I marked them A&B so that I wouldn't get left and right mixed up.
