Tonight started out with improving the cheapo harbor freight angle
drill I bought last week. Most of the gear that can be bought
from HF is perfect for light duty use as long as you do a little
preventitive maintnence.
Here's the gearbox from the inside of the drill - there are bearings on
the motor and in this unit, but it sounds like there is very little
grease in the box.
Yep, hardly any grease. It's a neat little gearbox - there is
a planatary reduction gear just before the outer bearing.
Pack the gears with a little grease and put it back together - much
better.
Back to business - here I'm pilot drilling the LH bottom skin.
Yet another shot of holes lining up on the rib center line mark that
can't be seen once it's resized for the web. You'll just have
to
trust me - the line is there and centered in the holes.
The LH skin clecoed down. Now to start on the RH side.
I really should toss that temp license tag.
Weighing down the skin to line it up on the frame.
I've got the corner lined up where it needs to go - even with the
weight it takes 6 clamps to hold it in place for drilling. I
definately don't want the bit walking on this hole.
Working my way across the skin. The clamps are on the
opposite
side of the spar channel just because its a handy spot to put them.
More clecos in the skin - heading up the front spar.
All of my #40 clecos - I started with 75... I can see now I'll need to
order more for the wings & fuse. I'll have to start
drilling
to #30 on the LH side to finish the RH.
All the open holes pilot drilled to #40.
Closeup of the #40 pilot holes.
