Feburary 15, 2007
Didn't get much done this week - prepping for Valentines Day.
Woo!
Started out where I left off on the 12th - putting the skins on the
h-stab. Here's the skins as they will sit on the frame
(rightside up this time)
The frame has been drilled to #30, but still needs to be deburred.
To keep track of each part I removed one rib at a time and
deburred it.
I also cut off the ends of the tip ribs as I'm planning on putting on
the "optional" fiberglass tips.
Deburred - yes it's a different picture. Look at the tip ribs.
And the frame is riveted.
Initial pilot drilling of the LH skin. First cleco.
I've got the skin laid on the corner how I want it to end up
- I'll square the frame with the skin.
The second cleco - I used some AL plate to line up the skin with the
tip rib.
To keep the skin lined up where I want it and to minimize wrinkles I'm
drilling from the corner out. I've got the back edge lined up
with the rear spar channel. The edge distance issues I was
conserned with were unfounded - once the frame was squared up with the
skin and the ribs were gently nudged into position everything lined up
great. Not all the rivets are perfectly centered, but they
are
pretty durn close.
Its hard to see in this photo (scaled for web viewing) but the rib
centerline is centered on the pilot hole in the skin. I
marked the ribs so I could get the frame square with the skin.
The LH skin pilot drilled and clecoed. Note the center rib is
missing - I left them out until I have the skins pilot drilled on the
frame. Once they are riveted its a lot harder to square it up.
The holes are nice and centered on the ribs.
The LH skin pilot drilled and clecoed. I've got vinyl
electrical tape on each cleco to avoid scratching the skin any worse.
