We left off yesterday with some blank tail ribs that needed the ends
cut and shaped. Here's a blank ready for trimming.
This end gets bent down 90 degrees - I start out by marking the 3/32"
edge cuts and the back of the trim line.
Here's a less flashy one. The corners will end up radiused
and the bend will be closer to the end.
Here's a closeup shot just before cutting with the bandsaw.
I'll
wax the blade with a candle before cutting. Notice the
cutting
deck on the saw has valleys cut into it and the plastic around the
blade has a lot of space. This make cutting the channel quite
difficult - it tries to slip in the valleys and gets stuck behind the
blade. Annoying and unsafe. I need to put something
on the
deck to smooth it out.
After cutting the 3/32" notches. Note the cuts don't go all
the
way to the back line - this allows for filing to radius the corners.
This is the other end of the rib - the edges are cut the same but they
are further in. This one will have some distance from the
edges
to the bend.
Full size prints are great - I've bent the 90 degree end and lined it
up on the drawing. I'm using the drawing to mark the bend on
the
other end.
The end filed down and radiused - ready for bending.
Apparently I missed a few steps with the camera (the later it gets the
less I use it). Here's the completed ribs.
